Chiropractic

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a profession which offers a package of care which includes manual therapies and a range of approaches for adjusting the bones of the body to improve skeletal alignment.  In doing so, it allows your nervous system to work more efficiently, relieves pain and discomfort and increases mobility.

How is the McTimoney method different?

Developed by John McTimoney over 30 years ago, the McTimoney method is recognised as being a gentle, precise, whole body approach to chiropractic care.  McTimoney Chiropractors strive for optimal health through a holistic approach for the entire person and not just the area that pains you and are trained to correct misalignments using their hands to apply quick, gentle and accurate adjustments which ensure you experience maximum comfort.  Stretching, soft tissue and mobilisation techniques are also used where necessary.

Can the McTimoney method help me?

The gentle nature of the McTimoney method makes it suitable for people of all ages.  The method has also been developed for use on animals.

What can I expect from my first session?

Your McTimoney Chiropractor will take a full case history, assessing your general health, previous conditions and existing symptoms. They will then conduct a thorough physical examination which will include neurological and orthopaedic testing to locate the problem and, with your consent, your chiropractor will then begin making adjustments using light, dextrous techniques associated with the McTimoney technique.

If at any point your chiropractor suspects or discovers a condition that requires medical intervention, they will refer you to your GP for further tests or x-rays if required. Your first consultation will take between 60 – 90 minutes and you may be asked to undress down to a base layer of clothing or underwear and a gown is available for your use.

How will I feel after my consultation?

Your chiropractor will give you advice on aftercare and any necessary lifestyle changes (nutrition, exercise, posture etc) to help you get the most out of your care.

During a course of chiropractic care you can expect to feel physical changes as your body realigns. These may include stiffness or tiredness, particularly after your first session.
